Thinking Sustainably in 2016

At EAU Technologies, we place a heavy focus on the power of sustainability in manufacturing. Our innovative products seek to reduce costs, energy use, and environmental impact, as well as improve water stewardship – because that’s what matters to us and to the companies we partner with.

We think that matters to you, too. But in the hustle and bustle of the every day, living sustainably can seem daunting and difficult. Luckily, there are easy ways to introduce sustainability into your home, and these three simple tips can help.

  • Invest in better products as you can. The cleaning solutions we bring into our homes and businesses have a big and often invisible impact on our health and the world around us. Most are produced with chemicals that are poisonous, toxic, corrosive, damaging to our health, and detrimental to our air, land, and water. Consider going green and replacing your traditional household cleaners with more eco-friendly varieties. Become a more educated consumer by reading labels and learning about the ingredients in the solutions you’re bringing home. The sustainable products may cost a little more up front, but the benefits far outweigh the small dent in your budget in the long run. And switching out just one product can make a big difference.
  • Opt for organic when you can. It seems like everywhere we turn, more and more companies are claiming all-natural, organic or green on their labels. And while some products aren’t worth the extra money you’d spend, some are. When it comes to buying better food, opt for organic whole grains, milk and dairy, meats, apples, cherries, berries, tomatoes, cucumbers, leafy greens, potatoes, squash and zucchini. Traditional varieties of these foods are often coated in fungicides and pesticides; they can even carry carcinogens and neurotoxins that can cause serious harm to you health – not to mention, they’re also produced in a way that’s terribly erosive to the environment.
  • Conserve energy where you can. The energy used in our homes, from gas and electricity to water, is hard and costly to produce. It contributes to the emission of green house gases, and is responsible for billions of tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. Be smart about energy use in your home by turning off the lights, switching to energy-efficient bulbs, investing in a programmable thermostat and energy-efficient appliances, keeping the fridge closed, and only washing full loads of dishes and clothing. Smart consumer tip: many power companies offer little-to-no cost energy audits that can tell you how much energy is currently being used is your home. Give your company a call today to see where you stand.

Other easy ways to promote sustainable living? Using reusable grocery bags and water bottles over the plastic variety; buying and shopping locally; recycling; planting a gardening; biking when you can.

And remember – when you, or the companies you love, choose EAU, you’re not just choosing a company that’s leading the way for more eco-friendly manufacturing; you’re choosing a company that’s invested in better living for us all.
